LUCEDA PHOTONICS: SIMULATION AND LAYOUT

Luceda Photonics provides design tools and services to the integrated photonics industry. IPKISS.flow is an integrated photonics design tool that provides a PDK (design library) for Smart Photonics and HHI. The PDK for Lionix is in the planning. It also links to other tools in the design eco-system such as VPI.

Nazca Design: LAYOUT design

Nazca is an open-source photonic IC design software tool released under open source license AGPLv3. Instead, foundry specific PDKs (the technology description) provided by Bright Photonics contains foundry intellectual property. Hence, these PDKs are under copyright and a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) with the foundry and Bright Photonics.

Nazca Design also offers several tutorials for free that you can work through to get acquainted with the software.

Mask Review 495 Mask review on technical design mistakes. Bright Photonics (creator of Nazca) reports where your mask can/has to be improved. The offer includes two iterations, does not include layout support.

Synopsys offers industry’s only unified and complete Photonic IC design platform, covering schematic capture, layout, device and circuit simulation and verification. OptoCompiler, OptSim, Photonic Device Compiler and OptoDesigner are available via Europractice for European Universities and Institutes. For other parts of the world and for commercial organizations, please contact photonics@synopsys.com to discuss how Synopsys can help with tools and training.

PDKs for the Synopsys Platform are available via JePPIX and the foundries.

VPIPhotonics: simulation

VPIcomponentMaker™ Photonic Circuits enables circuit-level simulation of photonic integrated circuits to design, optimize and validate performance parameters, perform tolerance analysis, and compare different technology/structural options. It can be combined with access to the HHI PDK, LIONIX PDK and SMART PDK via pluggable toolkits.

VPIdeviceDesigner™ is a scriptable Python-based simulation framework that offers a set of full-vectorial finite-difference mode solvers with nonuniform meshing and 2D and 3D implementations of the finite-difference frequency-domain beam-propagation method (BPM) for analysis and optimization of integrated photonic devices, waveguides, and optical fibers.
