ECIO Workshop on Open-Access PIC Technologies

June 22 @ 15:00 - 17:00

Join an online panel discussion on the question: “Will MPW-service for integrated photonics grow or decline in the next 10 years?” Register now!

Co-organized by JePPIX and ePIXfab with support of the European Conference On Integrated Optics.

MPW-service for integrated photonics started about 15 years ago and has become well established for a variety of PIC-platforms. This workshop focuses on the question: how will it evolve in the next 10 years? JePPIX and ePIXfab have invited 7 panelists who are stakeholders in the PIC-field. They will present their views on the following questions:

  • Question 1: Is a photonic MPW service more than just an entry-point for researchers? Is there a case for photonic MPWs for industrial product development and prototyping?
  • Question 2: Photonic MPW has been inspired by electronic MPW, the latter having a very solid position in the semiconductor industry, especially for advanced nodes. What does it take for photonic MPW to go the same route?
  • Question 3: Volume manufacturers offer customized processes but MPW service relies on a generic “all-in-one” process. Can photonic MPW combine a low-barrier entry with a route to process differentiation?

Our panelists are Dr. Michael Hochberg (Elenion Technologies), Prof. Mike Wale (TU/e and UCL), Dr. Pieter Dumon (Luceda Photoncis), Geert Appeldoorn (SMART Photonics), Francisco Rodrigues (PIC Advanced), Dr. Romano Hoofman (imec) and Kavitha Buddharaju (Advanced Micro Foundry). More information on the panelists can be found here. The workshop will be moderated by Kevin Williams (JePPIX) and Roel Baets (ePIXfab).

The event will be held online the day before ECIO, on 22nd June, from 3pm to 5pm CEST. Participation is free but registration is mandatory.

The day after the workshop, ECIO2020 starts online. Take a look at their website for more information on the program. Also make sure to check the co-events page for several design tool trainings!

ECIO2020 will work with Zoom Webinars, and registration is free of charge (but required). There will even be a digital poster discussion room for poster sessions.
